May 2003 will see the release of the unauthorised biography of Buffy creator Joss Whedon.

Written by US TV columnist Candace Havens, Joss Whedon: The Genius Behind Buffy will examine the phenomenon that is Whedon's creative skill via a series of interviews with Whedon and the cast of his TV series Buffy, Angel and Firefly....

Havens had to visit each of the TV series sets to research the book. "Joss has created these wonderful worlds that just blow your mind," she said. "We devote a short section in the book to the set visits and you get to see the whole thing through my eyes. I'm supposed to be this jaded critic, but when I walked into Buffy's bedroom and sat on the bed I wanted to scream, "Oh My God! I'm sitting on Buffy's bed!" I know it's silly but it was just an overwhelming feeling."

"I also had a chance to talk with just about every cast member from his shows," Havens continued. "And they each gave their own perspective on their characters and Joss' work. I also loved talking with Joss's teacher at Wesleyan. Her name is Jeanine Basinger and she's the Corwin-Fuller Professor of Film Studies at the University. She's a wonderful woman and gave me such insight into Joss's passion for his work. I could have talked with her for days. It was amazing some of the things we found when going through our research. I think it will open people's eyes to the creative genius that is Joss Whedon."
