What does Joss Whedon have up his sleeve for all of us Angel fans? Find out in this exclusive interview.

The WB: Can you give us any hints about the upcoming episode you directed?

Joss Whedon: "Spin The Bottle" is my way of casting a spell on everybody. I liked the idea of turning [the cast of characters] into adolescents again.

The WB: Making Angel relive his youth? Sounds painful.

JW: [This episode] plays with all of the characters' adolescent pain, but I also have fun with exploring things like how dorky Wesley used to be and what Angel was like before he was a vampire. You get to see what it was like when Cordelia was a bitch... that kind of thing. I really like the idea of exposing what they all used to be like and how much they've changed.

The WB: Are we in for any big shocks?

JW: You know I can't give anything away. I am really strict about that. However, I will say this: there's a lot of pain and emotion, but, at the same time, "Spin the Bottle" is a very light and funny episode.

The WB: Funny?

JW: More like intense comedy. Really intense. There was one day during which we lost an hour of shooting because the actors could not stop laughing. It's so much fun to have that energy. It's what I enjoy most about doing Angel.

The WB: What made you go for comedy?

JW: I played it [light] because this is the beginning of one of the most crucial and terrible eras these people have ever been through. "Spin the Bottle" is the last hurrah before things become very intense. So intense, viewers are hardly going to be able to stand it.

The WB: What do you fantasize about creating next?

JW: The thing that I want to do most in the world is make musicals.

The WB: Okay, that is surprising!

JW: I love science fiction and fantasy and I consider musicals to be part of the fantasy genre. They lend themselves to both excitement and fun and also to the really cool exploration of the human condition.

The WB: Speaking of which, people who visit The WB's message boards are constantly amazed by all of the hats you wear in your life. How do you do it?

JW: I am a workaholic. I can't stop. The shows matter too much. They are like my children. I also owe my audience. Every single time they turn on one of my shows, I want to make sure there is a reason for them to be there.
