Oz (who's real name is Daniel Osbourne), was first brought into the world of Buffy in season 2. He was better known as the lead guitarist for the Dingoes Ate My Baby who were a regulars at the Bronze. Through the year Oz started to develop a crush on Willow, however it wasn't until Career week that the two would finally meet and talk to each other. Oz and Willow had apparently been targeted by a multinational software company because they scored brillantly on their career test. However Oz showed very little interest in careers. His only ambition in life is to master the E-flat, diminished 9 Chord, which according to Oz is a "Man's chord - You could lose a Finger". Oz's lack of interest in school later resulted in him having to repeat his senior year.
Mid way through his senior year (the first time), Oz was bitten by his cousin Jordy who happened to be a werewolf. This bite had consequences as the bite transmitted the lycanthropy to Oz, therefore he now changes into a werewolf on the night of the full moon as well as the nights before and after.
"Is Jordy a werewolf? Uh-huh...and how long has that been going on? Uh-huh...no reason. Thanks. Love to Uncle Ken." - Oz discovering that Jordy is a werewolf in "PHASES"
During Oz's discovery of the wolf inside him just happened to occur at the same time that he asked Willow out. Despite the discovery Willow accepted and this was the beggining of a special relationship.
For the next two years, Willow and the rest of the "Scooby Gang" took turns "Wolf Sitting" making sure that on nights of the full moon to make certaiin that he would not escape and kill someone or be killed himself. There was one time when Oz briefly escaped except he did more good than harm. He attacked the Mr. Hyde-type monster that one of his fellow students had become.
Oz and Willows perfect love would ultimately be tested when he and Cordelia came upon Willow and Xander in a moment of passion. In typical Oz style, he reconciles with Willow and but keeps the physical relationship at bay a little longer only wanting them to be together only when neither of them has anything to prove.
Just before the Mayors Ascension, Oz for the first time lost his cool, panicking as only he can: he and Willow make love. He leads a regiment of students during the Ascension and when the battle is finally over Oz pauses for a moment to reflect on them not surviving the Ascension...but surviving High School.
Despite Oz's lack of academic ambition he moves on to College at UC Sunnydale with Willow and Buffy. During this year Oz's biggest fear is brought into light - to turn into the wolf and hurt Willow.
Oz would hurt Willow however when Oz falls for Veruca, a female wolf at UC Sunnydale and singer. Consequently Oz mates with Veruca not once, but twice and he can no longer deny the animalistic attraction between the two of them. When Willow finds Oz and Veruca together after a night out, she is traumatised. This is further aided when Veruca attempts to kill Willow, however Oz gets to Veruca in time and they both turn wolf. Oz wins the fight and kills Veruca, Buffy then saves Willow by tranquilising Oz.
Oz then decides that he must leave Sunnydale saying...
"Veruca was right about something. The wolf is inside me all the time. And I don't know where the line is anymore, between me and it. Until I figure out what that means, I shouldn't be around you. Or anybody." - Oz in "WILD AT HEART"
Pz finally finds a cure for the wolf with the help of some Tibetan monks, who teach him to meditate, to keep his inner cool. In conjunction he takes "some herbs and stuff, some chanting , couple of charms". He later returns back to Sunnydale to show Willow that he can remain human even during the full moon.
But when Oz learns that he has some competition in Tara, he loses his cool and starts to turn into the wolf, in broad daylight. The Initiative then capture Oz, however Riley goes against all his training and sets Oz free. Willow has one choice to make - Oz or Tara. She chooses Tara. Oz leaves again, and no one knows if he will ever return. However no one would be surprised if they turned the corner in ten years time and there Oz would be.
