Buffy Anne Summers
By Jason

After revealing herself as a vampire slayer to her mother and sending a restored Angel to hell, Buffy fled Sunnydale. It was all too much for her and she needed to escape. She moved out of town and used her middle name "Anne" instead of Buffy and held a waitressing job at the local cafe. Buffy was unable to escape her past and her calling here either as she was once again needed by Lily (formely Chanterelle) who Buffy had once saved in Sunnydale. When Buffy reluctantly agrees to help her. her slayer side comes out in full swing, after being dormant for sometime and she realises that she can't escape her destiny and that lies in Sunnydale.

Buffy: "Hey, Ken. Wanna see my impression of Gandhi?"

Lilly: "Gandhi?"

Buffy: "Well, you know...if he was really pissed off."

Buffy goes back home to once again take up her role as the Slayer and finds that her role has been taken over by the rest of the "Scooby Gang". Buffy was forced to face some awkard moments between her and her mother and also the rest of the gang who had to compensate for the whole that she left in their lives. However this is not the end of it as she soon receives the news that she has been expelled from Sunnydale High.

Rebuilding her broken relationships was tough for Buffy and especially for her mother Joyce. Buffy had kept her slaying a secret from Joyce for years and Joyce felt that this was an act of mistrust on Buffys behalf. However her mum gets a good look at Buffy's Slaying lifestyle when the Summerses home is being attacked by Zombies. The Scooby Gang pitch in and help and Joyce helps out also, but more importantly this is the first time Joyce has seen Buffy in action and she starts to acknowledge the role Buffy has in protecting the world.

Things start to look up for Buffy. Her relationship with her mother is getting back on track, as is her relationship with the rest of the Scooby Gang. She is finally admitted back into Sunnydale High (with a little bit of blackmail by Giles) and everything seems to coming back together again, and then a new slayer arrives in town - Faith.

Faith was called after the death of Kendra who died in the hands of a hypnotizing Drusilla. This was a serious spanner in the works for Buffy getting her life back on track. Faith received a lot of attention because of her sassy and aggressive behaviour, but what got Buffy the most was Faith flirting with Scott Hope, Buffy's new guy interest.

Giles has been pestering Buffy for a while about the details of her final battle with Angel, so that he could work on a binding spell. Not having the strength to tell them before Buffy lets out the truth about what really happened that night, that she sent Angel to hell after he was cured, after he had regained his soul. The rest of the gang are finally able to understand her reactions after that shattering day. Buffy then conjures up enough courage to say a final good-bye to Angel - not realising however that he has returned.

When Buffy does find that Angel has mysteriously returned, she sees him unlike anything she has seen before. he has returned as a beast, uncontrollable, and in a great deal of pain. Yet she keeps this a secret from the gang even though people are suspecting Oz of the recent murders that have been taking place in brutal fashion. Eventually, Angel comes back to the vampire we are so used to seeing, the one with the soul. It seems his time spent in hell severely damaged him, but he has recovered. Buffy tries to keep her distance from him, telling him about her new boyfriend, Scott, however after telling him Scott dumps her. She soon tries to take another chance of having a perfect life when she decides to run against Cordelia for Homecoming Queen.

Yet standing in her way is the vampire Mr Trick who has just called on Slayerfest '98. Buffy and Cordelia are targeted as the two Slayers of Sunnydale and assassions galore are sent after them to try and kill them. They do escape to win the battle, while the other "real" slayer Faith is able to play a revenge act on behalf of Buffy by embarrassing Scott Hope. Yet this victory against Scott is of little worth considering Buffy loses the Homecoming Queen Crown and once more the chance of becoming a normal teenager.

Buffy's life is once again turned upside down when her friends discover that Angel has returned and that she has been hiding him from them. Though she assures them that he has returned with a soul her friends remain hostile towards her as Angel had threatened all of them when he had turned into Angelus. Meanwhile Buffy is in a state of confusion as to what her relationship with Angel is. She tries to tell herself that they can coexist as friends, but deep down she knows that this can never be. Consequently she is heartbroken but tells Angel that she is going to stay away from him from now on.

"We're not friends. Never were. I can fool Giles, I can fool my friends, but I can't fool myself. Or Spike, for some reason. What I want from you, I can never have." - Buffy in "Lovers Walk".

At Christmas time Buffy bumps into Angel on the street who is acting rather strangely. The First Evil in the form of Jeny Calendar seeks revenge and to convince Angel that his only purpose in life is to cause evil. If he cannot or will not then he has no purpose. Not willing to harm Buffy or any of the gang again Angel decides to commit suicide by waiting outside for the sun to rise. However Buffy is able to talk her true love out of it and prevent him from dusting himself.

Strong is fighting. It's hard and it's painful and it's everyday. It's what we have to do and we can do it together..." - Buffy in "Amends".

One of Buffy's biggest betrayals came courtesy of Giles who went along with the Watchers Coucil in carrying out a tradition that when a Slayer makes it to her eighteenth birthday she must be rendered weak and helpless and forced to survive a battle to the death. Buffy was not aware of this and is stunned to discover that Giles has secretly been injecting her with a drug to take away her powers. Buffy was originally supposed to save herself from a vampire who was already criminally insane before he was chaned. However the vampire kidnaps Joyce and plans on killing her. Giles ashamed of what he has done abandons the test and helps Buffy out in dusting the vampire. However the Council disapproves of this and sacks him from being Buffy's watcher. However this gesture doesn't come close to repairing the damage he caused between Buffy and himself...however it is a start.

Meanwhile, Richard Wilkins III has been planning Ascension into pure demon form. However this is unknown to both the Slayers at present. Under the presence of Faith, Buffy changes her morals and takes on Faiths ideas of "Want. Take. Have." and like Faith runs wild around the town. However while experiencing this new found liveliness, they mistake the deputy mayor for a vampire. Buffy realises just in time, however Faith does not and ultimately kills the deputy mayor by staking him. She violated the Slayer's code - never kill humans.

Buffy struggles with the knowledge that Faith killed a human, yet Faith doesn't and just blows it off. When Faith suspects Buffy is going to come clean, Faith frames her for the murder by telling Giles that Buffy did it. Yet Giles knew better, he knew that Buffy didn't do it and Faith had. This sent Faith right off, she tried to kill Xander, only to be saved by Angel. Buffy tries to save Faith before there is no return, but she is unable to and consequently Faith joins forces with the Mayor and goes into the darkness.

Upon realising that the Mayor was up to no good, Buffy and Angel plot to trick Faith into revealing everything about the Mayors plans. Angel pretends to be evil again and makes out with Faith in front of Buffy and knocks Buffy around. However once their plan has worked, Angel drops the act, yet the affect it has had on Buffy has had a heavy affect. Seeing Angel kiss Faith and watching him be evil again has taken its toll and Buffy needs some time to herself.

At the end of her senior year, Buffy receives excellent SAT scores and gets accepted into a number of highly established colleges. However she knows that her destiny is to slay the forces of darkness and that she must remain in Sunnydale. This decision is made even easier when she finds out that Willow too is to stay in Sunnydale and that they will both be attending the same University.

Yet not everything is rosy in Buffy's world. Ultimately the relationship between Buffy and Angel is doomed. Spike knew it. The Mayor knows it. Joyce knows it. Even Angel knows it. It is up to Angel to break Buffy's heart by ending the relationship, only because he loves her so much that he knows she deserves more. Angel breaks up with Buffy jsut before her senior prom. When the Mayor has been defeated, Angel will leave town.

Upon the day of her senior prom a student unleashes Hell Hounds on the unsuspecting class. It is up to Buffy to save the class and destroy the hounds as she arrives at the prom...alone. Then in a moving tribute, the class bestows an award on her: The Class Protector. Her peers have finally acknowledged the fact that time and time again she has saved them from the evil beings that have been hushed up over the years and that they are greatful beyond words. And too perfect the night Angel shows up for one last dance, one last moment to be with his one true love. Buffy's prom is the thing that dreams - not real life - are made of.

However the Mayors Ascension is getting closer every day, and it becomes known that the date for his ascension will be during the Graduation Ceremony. In order to distract Buffy, the Mayor has Faith shoot Angel with a poisoned arrow, this arrow could ultimately kill Angel through its poison. Buffy seeks the Watchers Council for help in curing Angel, however because he is a vampire they will not help her. Consequently Buffy quits the council. She discovers that the only other way to cure Angel is for him to drain the blood of a slayer. So Buffy goes on the hunt for Faith. Yet she is unsuccessful in bringing Faith to Angel and only succeeds in putting her in a coma. Finally Buffy convinces a near dead Angel to drink her blood. He does which leaves Buffy remarkably clear headed. While recovering, Buffy encounters Faith in an unconscious state in which Faith tells Buffy how to defeat the Mayor. So its off to work she goes.

As class protector, Buffy leads the charge in preparing the rest of her year in destroying the Mayor. Each student played a critical role, yet not all would make it. The Mayor however is defeated courtesy of a rigged up library and is blown to kingdom come. The school is also demolished.

Angel then bids Buffy a final farewell, not saying a word but acknowledging her on a good fight, and to let her know that he has survived. Angel then disappears into the smoke, mixed with a blur of Buffy's tears.

Giles: "Quite a couple of days."

Buffy: "My braib hasn't processed everything yet. It's not really functioning at the higher levels. It's pretty much, 'fire bad, tree pretty.' Anything more complex...

Giles: "Understandable. Well, when it starts working again, congratulate it on a good campaign. you did very well...There is a certain dramatic irony in the way things turned out. A synchronicity that borders on predestination, one might say."

Buffy: "Fire bad. Tree pretty."
